Real change always starts with a small step. And you’ve already taken that step by beginning your search for a therapist. Honor that for yourself! The inward journey is the most important one we take in our lives, and we cannot do it alone. My role as your therapist is to guide you with empathy, compassion, and insight so that you can connect with the inner courage and wisdom to be your truest self.
Education:
Lydia holds a Master of Science in Social Work from University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from University of Virginia. She received her BA in English from Cornell University. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the State of Tennessee.
Style:
Through my social work training, I take a “big picture” approach to therapy, considering all the factors that influence our lives, with a focus on acknowledging systems of oppression while simultaneously building strengths and resources. I also draw from my background in writing and creative practices. Tapping into the healing power of Expressive Writing Therapy through guided journaling and other practices can be part of our work together, if that feels right for you. I incorporate elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into my sessions as well. I take a trauma-informed approach, with the guiding principle that we don’t need to be defined by our wounds, and the idea that understanding where we are coming from is an essential step towards where we are going. All in all, I value a client-centered approach, and work closely clients to tailor our sessions to fit what works best for you.
Hobbies:
When I’m not at work I spend my time parenting, having dance parties, roller skating, taking long dog walks, reading and getting out in the woods as much as possible.
Specialties:
Adults 18+, depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA+, healing from trauma and addiction, perinatal, grief, life transitions.
Please note: all therapists at Works Counseling Center are LGBT+ competent and committed to anti racism.
