By the end of January, many of us have started to fall behind on our New Year’s Resolutions. Perhaps you recognized that you never stick with them, so you avoided setting any goals for the upcoming year. Well, it’s not too late to make a change so that the rest of your 2025 starts moving towards progress. Below are five steps that you can take to maximize your potential, and maintain momentum moving forward.

  1. The first element to setting yourself up for success with goal setting is making sure that your goals are specific and measurable. Instead of a generalized goal of “getting healthier,” break that down into specific steps: “add a vegetable to every meal,” or “make a protein rich breakfast with 30g protein.” These specific steps are easier to track and stick to.
  2. Once you have specific and measurable goals, creating a routine can help you to incorporate your goals into your daily life. Making a routine out of your new goals will keep them integrated into your daily life and help you to reach them.
  3. Holding yourself accountable can be the hardest part of sticking with your goals; that’s why so many of us don’t stick with them! Finding a partner or person to share your goals with, who can check in on you and hold you accountable can help you to stay motivated.
  4. While you may be tempted to operate like a drill-sergeant, having fun in the process of working towards your goals will make the steps you are taking and all the hard work far more enjoyable. Find fun activities, liven up your gym routine with music, or find cooking classes to join– this will make the journey towards achieving your goals more exciting.
  5. The most common way to set goals is to use a timeframe (hence why people use the New Year as a marker). Celebrate the small victories and milestones towards your overall goal as a way to keep moving forward. Every step in the right direction is progress! You’ve got this!
