Sometimes in life the foundation under us cracks and breaks.

A global crisis. Suddenly losing your job. Health scares. Relationships ending. Or maybe, it’s not obvious. There’s just a lingering sense of unease- a sense of being in the eye of a storm or like something is holding its breath.

Our brains are wired to like patterns- we actively seek them out as forms of security. When our patterns and comfort are disturbed, our system goes on the defense trying to get us back on ‘track’. During times of uncertainty you might experience things like restlessness or racing thoughts, increased anxiety, mood swings, disconnection from life, or the need to control things. These are all natural responses to stress- your nervous system is trying to protect you. If you are feeling stuck and overwhelmed or exhausted at trying to make sense of what comes next- you aren’t alone.

When things have become unsteady, our environment in therapy changes from a place to ‘work on yourself’ – to a harbor in the storm.A place to breathe, pause, and remember the core of who you are when the world is unrecognizable.

Therapy can be an anchor when everything is changing- its a consistent safe space every time. That hour is yours, every session.

In that space of safety you can say exactly what you are thinking and feeling out loud no matter how messy it may be. Fear, rage, hope, falling to pieces- its yours without judgment. In session you can gain skills like breathwork, but you can also just be witnessed without needing to clean it up first. By processing in a space that feels safe you can calm the stress response and get back to the clarity of who you are. Therapy can help you regain your sense of agency and realign with the strengths you’ve had all along so you can ride the storm- even if you don’t know how.

In fact, therapy is one of the few places where it’s okay to say, “I don’t know.”

So if this sounds like you and you are walking through an uncertain season, please remember.
You are not weak for needing support- You’re human.
Uncertainty doesn’t mean you’re lost- it means you’re between stories,

You don’t need to have it all planned out. You just need a place to feel it out.

Therapy doesn’t make uncertainty go away, but it can help you build something solid inside that can stand firm when everything else shakes.
